Cause
This is a VMware issue. It is most likely caused by the particular ESX(i) host state (where the Exchange VM is running) which returns Error 500 on specific HTTP requests intended to validate the credentials inside the guest OS of Exchange VM.
Solution
The solution is one of the following:
- Double-check that the credentials you provide are correct for the guest OS and you can log into it using them.
- If the above does not help then restart the Management Agents on the ESX(i) host as described in VMware KB: Restarting the Management agents on an ESXi or ESX host. This method will not require the VMs running on this host to be shut down.
- If neither of the above helps then the ESX(i) host should be rebooted. This method requires the VMs running on this host to be shut down.

- The operation is not allowed in the current state.
